On-the-Go Snacks to Throw in Your Bag

June 4, 2018 by Katie

Snacking has never been my strong suit. That’s actually why I post so much about healthy snacks…because anytime I discover a useful strategy, I feel the need to share it.

Despite feeling particularly inspired with snack food lately—especially since I’ve started creating DIY snack boxes and viewing snacks as small meals—I’ve been finding myself getting hangry while out and about. I used to carry food with me everywhere to prevent this, but I’ve apparently started slacking.

If hanger is something you deal with on the regular, there’s a good chance you should start bringing snacks with you on-the-go as well. To give you some ideas of some snacks to grab on your way out the door, I’ve compiled a list of all the randomness I’ve found to work really well.

1. Almonds, pistachios, or any type/mixture of nuts

2. Whole fruit (e.g., apple, banana, bag of berries)

3. Granola bar or protein bar

4. Trail mix (Harvest Trail Mix is my go-to)

5. Jerky

6. Dried fruit

7. Squeezable fruit pouches or baby food (yes, really)

8. String cheese (if you plan to eat it soon)

9. Muffins or banana bread

10. Celery and peanut butter (ants on a log, anyone?)

11. Granola (e.g., Maple Vanilla Granola)

12. Fruit leather

13. Peanut butter and jelly sandwich

14.Roasted chickpeas (e.g., Cajun Roasted Chickpeas)

15. Single-serve popcorn bag

16. Protein shake

17. Apple sauce cups (drink it if you don’t have a spoon)

18. Hard boiled eggs

19. Hummus and pre-cut veggies (just throw it all in the same container)

20. Single-serve nut butter pouch

Most of these you can leave in your bag all day without worrying about them going bad, but obviously use common sense as to what needs to be eaten sooner rather than later.

Hope this helps give you some ideas!

Do you tend to keep food in your bag? What are some of your go-to items?
