Peanut Butter Banana Oatmeal

October 19, 2018 by Katie

Start your morning with a filling bowl of oatmeal that gets its delicious flavor from the classic peanut butter and banana combo.

There is not a single recipe on this blog that I have made more than today’s recipe. There are certain ones I tend to make at least once every week or two (i.e., coconut oil popcorn, homemade pizza crust, etc.), but this PB and banana oatmeal is a dish that I’ve made daily for YEARS.

I used to be a cereal fiend, never caring much about oatmeal because I thought it was boring unless it was one of those pre-made packets loaded with sugar. Then awhile back, I decided to partake in lent and gave up the one thing I knew I’d miss but could use a break from: cereal. Right away, I started preparing my oatmeal with banana slices and peanut butter every morning.

To my surprise, I didn’t even miss my daily bowl of cereal, and I also didn’t mind the lack of sugar in my oatmeal. There’s just something about the simple combo of peanut butter, banana slices, and cinnamon that makes up for the sweetness I had always expected in my oatmeal. Even today, I can’t believe I’m able to eat this oatmeal recipe every. single. day. without getting sick of it.

Granted, I do like to branch out on the weekends when I have more time—making recipes like my Apple Spice Baked Oatmeal Cups or Greek Yogurt Pancakes—but most of the time I stick to this oatmeal. I always have the ingredients on hand, so it’s a no-brainer when I’m still waking up. I hope you like it too!

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup milk (or more if you want thinner oatmeal)
  • 1 Tbs crunchy peanut butter
  • 1/2 banana, sliced
  • 1/8 tsp ground cinnamon

Instructions:

  1. In a microwave-safe bowl (that allows for the oatmeal to grow), add the oats and milk. Microwave for 1 1/2 minutes.
  2. Stir in the peanut butter, add the banana slices, and sprinkle the cinnamon.

Sometimes, I like to add chocolate protein powder to this, as well, for extra flavor and protein. With or without it, though, I’ve always found this recipe to have some staying powder, preventing me from needing a snack too early. I highly recommend it!

Are you an oatmeal person? What are your favorite add-ins and toppings?

i love PB in my oatmeal. heck, i love PB in my PB!
i just use water to heat my oatmeal. i’ll make some hot water in the coffee pot, then dump some on some oatmeal in the bowl. chuck in some PB, perhaps some fruit (blueberries!), and away we go!

Haha sounds simple enough. I’ll have to try other fruit with peanut butter. Never thought about blueberries!

I didn’t grow up doing lent either but I think I’m going to give up dessert this year. Or at least modify the way I consume it. It’s gotten a little out of hand at this point!

I can relate. I should give up junk food or a specific kind because I’ve been eating horribly lately.
