Weekend Recap + Exciting News!

November 26, 2012 by Katie

Happy Monday morning!

Now that the Thanksgiving festivities are over, I’m more than ready for Christmastime and putting up the decorations! The weather, on the other hand, not so much.

Now, prepare for some randomness and lots of pictures…

Thursday (I’m stretching the word “weekend” out a bit, I realize)

While at my grandma’s house, I discovered a new fruit. Anyone ever heard of persimmons? I couldn’t believe my grandma had two persimmon trees, and throughout all the time I’ve spent wandering their farm/country property over the years, I had never noticed. They smelled sweet and apparently persimmons pudding is a popular dish. You learn something new everyday.

Friday

I ended up doing my long run in the insane wind and cold. It was a pain in the face. It’s amazing how much more pleasant a run is when you dress appropriately though. Speaking of dressing appropriately, I went all ninja during my run. As I got all bundled up, I realized I looked like a ninja. I put another long sleeve shirt on top to add warmth and take away from my black ensemble but not before I snapped a pic because I was amused.

Saturday

It was the official Thanksgiving at our casa. My father and I were cooking up a storm in zee kitchen, making lots of goodies. One of which is a cranberry jalapeño sweet dip. It’s bizarre but really good. I’ll share the recipe with you later.

We also played Apples to Apples for around 3 hours while enjoy margaritas. Nothing says Thanksgiving like a little bit of tequila and a lot a bit of fightin’ words among the game players.

Sunday

The siblings departed from the homestead, and we decided to make taking a family picture a Thanksgiving tradition, seeing as how the past two years we had already done so.

Overall, it was a WONDERFUL weekend filled with lots of family and food—a.k.a. two of the best things in life. Now I’m home chillin’ like a villain, finishing up a freelance assignment and trying to get creative with remaking Thanksgiving leftovers.

But oh wait! I have…

Exciting News

I SIGNED UP FOR A MARATHON LAST NIGHT!!

SurfCity

I’m soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo excited. I finally picked one and have a date to look forward to! Nothing like starting out the year (the race is Feb. 3rd) finishing a goal by running 26.2 miles on THE BEACH. I think it sounds like a good time to me.

I was basically smiling all night. My heart was beating very fast while finishing up the registration process. So. Pumped. And it’s a million times better because Matt’s basically a wonderful boyfriend and is going to help me train when I move out there in January. Oh ya, that plan is finally turning into reality. Smile

IN OTHER WORDS, I have a lot to be happy thankful for today.

Now that I’m signed up for a marathon, running has become exciting again! I’m going for a 9-mile run when it warms up later, and I’m definitely looking forward to it.

How was your Thanksgiving? What did you do?

What’s your favorite Thanksgiving food?

Dressing/stuffing is usually my favorite, but my father made this weird shrimp dip, which I more or less o.d.’-ed on. Shrimp for Thanksgiving? Sure, why not.

What are you extra thankful for today?

I’m thankful for such wonderful people in my life as well as being able to pursue opportunities like running a marathon on the beach!

Love the afternoon of Apples to Apples + Margaritas. That could easily be a family tradition! Also, what a wonderful family photo. Congrats on registering for the marathon. Especially such a cool one with a GREAT medal! (Can you tell I’m just a little bit jealous? lol) Good luck!
