Tone It Up Circuit Workout

May 2, 2016 by Katie

Comin’ at you with an upper body and core workout today!

I try to mix things up and try new exercises in my workouts every once in awhile, but you really can’t go wrong with the simplest ones (e.g. squats, situps, and pushups). I created today’s circuit after going to a workout class that incorporated super basic exercises – the goal for the day was to see how fast we could do the allotted reps. This was my inspiration when I sat down to write a new circuit recently.

As one of the exercises in that workout class, we were instructed to do 30 pushups (I believe a total of 5 times?), which is absolutely insane to me because pushups are not my forte. However, it’s amazing what you can do when you push aside doubt and just do it (being watched by a trainer doesn’t hurt). I was able to do way more pushups than I ever thought, even though after the second round I was on my knees, and then by the fourth, I couldn’t really go down that far in fear of collapsing. Even though I definitely had to keep making it easier, I still enjoyed the challenge.

SO, for this Tone It Up workout I created, I’m not messing around.

I tried to keep things realistic for my fitness level, while still pushing myself past what I will no doubt want to do. (Sometimes you can’t appreciate the “burning so good” sensation until you’re done. Haha.) I went through this circuit twice – each round took me about 8-10 minutes.

Afterwards, I felt pretty proud of myself because it was quite the challenge. Especially those dive bomber pushups. Oof!!

Make sure to check out my exercise guide for video demonstrations of each exercise if you’re unsure of the proper way to do them.

Best of luck to you as you tone up!
