The first time I go to use my computer after the move, the screen doesn’t work. If I had a nickel for every time my laptops have failed on me…
So, I’m writing this post on Matt’s Mac, which turns out is complicated for my PC-using self. So, to protect my own sanity, this is going to be a lot shorter than planned. It’s probably for the best anyways. You don’t want to hear me go on and on about cows and nothingness in the desert.
First things first—my workout: I ran for the first time in awhile on Wednesday, and it was a-ma-zing. I’m still not feeling 100% better, but I’m most of the way there. My running felt awkward at first. Is it possible to forget how to do it in a week? Breaking a sweat felt pretty wonderful, though.
Wednesday, I ran 4 (slow) miles. Thursday, I ran 7 (again, slow) miles. I can’t even believe how sore my legs are from taking just a week off. Today, I did an 8 Minute Plank Challenge (needed something quick before my dad and I headed out for fun activities around the city).
Moving Cross Country Part 2
Here are a few sights we saw that I found slightly amusing. Hope you do as well!
If you follow me on Facebook, then you know we drove through Tulsa, OK. Just this past week I watched the Friends episode where Chandler has to work in Tulsa. So, all I could think as we were driving through it is how we were in the “Paris of Oklahoma.” Hey, anything to entertain me through this 4-day drive.
Cows. They were everywhere. Seriously.
Pistachio trees! We drove past a lot of pecan tree farms, but I found the pistachios to be the most fascinating, even though they really don’t look that exciting here.
Also, I saw Mexico! We were right next to the border for a little bit, which was pretty cool. That’s the closest I’ve been to leaving the country (on my bucket list). How pathetic/exciting! You can’t even tell in the picture below, but I promise there’s a fence somewhere in there.
Mountains! We drove through so many mountains, I didn’t think we’d ever escape. The lack of guard rails in certain spots were nerve-wracking.
Yesterday, my dad and I went for a walk at Mission Bay (for those of you who know where I’m talking about). It was EXTREMELY windy. I don’t know if I’ve ever experienced such crazy wind in San Diego before. It was still nice to get out and take a stroll by the beach to show my father around a bit.
Today, we ventured over to the Fort Rosencrans National Cemetery in Point Loma, which was beautiful as always. It overlooks the naval base, and we even were able to see a Red Cross ship and a few subs partially out of the water, so that was exciting.
He’s still living with the flu (while I’m at the tale end of mine), so that’s been putting a damper on our exploring. We’re just happy to be done with the long journey and hanging out in a warmer place now.
For the rest of my dad’s time here (before he heads back to IL), we’re planning to go to Coronado, downtown San Diego, tour the Midway (old aircraft carrier), and eat some good food.
I’m trying to sneak in any unpacking that I can, since our days have been filled with a lot of activities. My stuff may or may not be officially taking over this small apartment.
I am now dealing with my really chaotic packing (with boxes having a little bit of everything in no particular order). Example: a box with shoes, light bulbs, a vase, wine corks (I collect them for a potential future crafty project), shot glasses, and tea. It just worked well for the space. Unfortunately, it makes unpacking a very confusing and complicated process.
And that completes my second recap from my trip moving to San Diego from snowy Illinois! I know, not exactly the most thrilling stories considering the move covered 2,000 miles. That’s just how it went, though. I was surprised how well the trip went, overall, because I was never dying to escape the car. So I’m very thankful for that. Roadtrips are all fine and dandy, but 4 full days of driving can be a bit blah. I’m thankful for how well it went, though.
Hope you all have a great weekend!

Maybe not under these circumstances…but I bet Dad loves seeing where you’ll be living! It makes me happy that he’s having new adventures with you 🙂 Maybe I’ll feel better and talk to you next week!
