March has been good to me. I’m loving the gradual changing of seasons and look forward to getting outside more in the following months. Nature = my happy place.
As simple as it sounds, I’ve also been enjoying having my health lately—after falling victim to multiple viruses in the winter. The pulled muscle in my ribs that I was suffering from for what felt like forever (that I mentioned in my comeback is always stronger post) seems pretty much healed at this point. So HALLELUJAH for that development.
What really made me notice my progress was doing burpees on Monday as part of my No-Equipment Core Workout—an exercise that previously angered the pulled muscle. They felt pretty normal (you know, normal horrible), so that was a sign I’m ready to move on!
Since I’m basically back to my healthy self, I figured it was finally time to begin my 31-Day Core Challenge that I TRIED to complete in December but couldn’t from said pulled muscle. I’m on day three if you want to join in!
For a closer look at all the little things I’ve been loving over the past month, take a look at my favorites below.
March Favorites
Daylight Saving Time – Everyone’s always hating on DST, while I’m over here like, “YASSS less sleep and more sunshine!” I’m willing to sacrifice that one hour over a single weekend to get more daylight every day after work. It really helps me savor the days more.
Spring Season – Sometimes I think fall is my favorite season, but once spring rolls around again, I know it’s where the real magic’s at. As I gushed about in my spring produce guide, this happy couple months is just a breath of fresh air after the decreased daylight from winter and before the harsher temperatures of summer. I’m already starting to notice new bursts of colors around San Diego.
Cupcake ATMs – We made a trip to Vegas a few weekends ago for a race Matt was running in, and as part of our adventures around the city, I made sure to stop at this “ATM” to get a Sprinkles cupcake. Although everyone raves about their cupcakes, I definitely just did this to experience the cupcake delivery method. (Oh, but my dark chocolate cupcake did NOT disappoint.)
The High Road by Broken Bells – I listened to The Shins all the time in college, so when I discovered this song and read about the band, it suddenly made sense why I was so intrigued by it. One of the two Broken Bells members is James Mercer of The Shins. Love the chill vibe of this song.
Chopped Off My Hair – Growing up, my sister and I always had really short bob haircuts. Since I’ve been in control of my own hair, I pretty much just…let it grow out pretty long, chop it off, let it grow out again, chop it off, and so on and so forth. Well I just got it cut it shorter than I have in a very long time, and I’m loving how easy it is to deal with. Plus, as Coco Chanel once said, “A woman who cuts her hair is about to change her life.” Sometimes a significant update in your appearance makes you feel new again.
TOMS Deia Bootie – I have wanted a pair of “booties” for a couple years now, but I wanted them to be comfortable. After a long search, I spontaneously ordered these online, and by the grace of the foot gods, they not only fit…but they are extremely comfortable. I highly recommend them if you’re willing to spend some money on a good pair of booties. They fit perfectly from the first time I wore them.
Gooey by Glass Animals – I found this song through a Spotify radio station, and it was just weird enough to stick out to me. Since then I’ve started exploring more from Glass Animals, but I’ve been playing this song on repeat lately.
Eating Romaine Like Chips – Okay, so this is going to sound a little ridiculous, but I like to channel my inner bunny and eat lettuce straight-up. I always have. After a less-than-healthy weekend of eats, I decided to eat a bowl of romaine Sunday night…followed by another one. The fresh crunch is so satisfying; it reminds me of chips almost. I’m just going to…keep with this weirdly healthy habit and not question it.
Santa Clarita Diet – If you need a show to binge-watch on Netflix, you must start the Santa Clarita Diet. We watched the first season soon after it came out and were surprised how much we liked it. The second season was just released, and we may or may not already be done with it. Even if you’re not a fan of zombie shows, this one is hilarious. I highly recommend checking it out!
No-Show Socks – First off, I’m starting to think I share too many pics of my feet/shoes in my favorites (sorryyy). Second, if you wear slip-on shoes that leave the tops of your feet exposed, no-show socks are a must. I don’t like my feet going commando unless I’m wearing sandals, so I’ve started a collection of no-show socks like these ones. They’re usually really thin, which isn’t my favorite quality, but they definitely come in handy if you want to wear socks without them sticking out of your shoes!
