I feel so legit.
I’ve been using energy gels lately in my long runs to help refuel my body. Why, you ask? Because the wonderful people at Vi Endurance sent me a generous sample of their chocolate, vanilla, and peach cobbler energy gels to try out and review.
Before I get into the review, though, here’s what I did yesterday:
Workout: I ran 16 miles at a 9:43 pace, which baffles my mind because I was going so. slow. In my ideal world, I would have ran 20 miles, but I am oh-so-content with having done 16. I’m feeling much better about the marathon that’s coming up in.. .3 days? Oh geez. (Today, I’m just doing 2-3 recovery miles.)
After yesterday’s run, Matt and I got some froyo at a nearby place, and it was magical.
This was actually only the 2nd time I’ve ever had froyo. I don’t understand how people don’t fill their cups up every time—such self control! I always get to the way top and realize I have to stop piling on the toppings.
I’m usually all about the chocolate, but after the run, I was really into the idea of fruit. Some words of advice: peanut butter froyo and fruity sorbet don’t go very well together. Okay, enough about my froyo experience and onto my review of Vi Endurance.
Vi Fuel Review
I’m not the most experienced runner out there, so this refueling with fancy products is new to me—fancy products meaning energy gels. Here’s what I thought about my Vi Fuel Energy Gels:
They’re Convenient. I’m pretty sure I’m going to carry a few these babies with me during my upcoming marathon. They’re much easier to carry with me during a run compared to energy chews or other refueling options. Plus, they seem to be easier to consume during a run because there’s no chewing involved.
They Taste Interesting. I wasn’t sure how I felt about them at first, but that’s mainly because I was distracted by the gel texture which is new to me. The flavor I liked the most was probably the peach cobbler. Fruity flavors appeal to me more when working out. The others weren’t too bad, though. According to the Vi Endurance website, they only use natural and organic flavors, so that’s always a plus!
They’re Easy to Digest. I don’t have much to compare them to, as I’m new to this energy gel world, but Vi Endurance uses a special ingredient to make the gels sit better in your stomach. This special ingredient is dextrose. While other gels are usually composed of fructose, Vi Fuel uses dextrose which your body has a much easier time of digesting. It’s actually the only sugar your body can break down without processing. Therefore, less nausea and more happy times running!
The company focuses on taste, quality, and performance in their quest to fuel athletes. To learn more about all the goodness that is in Vi Endurance Fuel, check out their Vi Advantage page.
I’ve definitely enjoyed trying them out and seeing how they can improve my performance as I run long distances. Thank you Vi Endurance for helping fuel my marathon training! (And probably the marathon itself.)
