T-3 days until Halloween! I’ve been in the holiday spirit all month, which you’ll notice in some of my favorites below.
Tonight we’re planning to carve some pumpkins we picked out last week. Here’s hoping they’re still in decent shape because they’ve been in the sub-32-degree weather, which has also included some snow.
As usual, I have no idea what I’m going to carve yet, and I probably won’t decide until I’m sitting down with a pumpkin carving knife in hand, staring at my pumpkin. Despite having no plan, I’m still looking forward to the annual ritual.
Check out some of the other things I’ve been enjoying lately by reading through the list below!
October Favorites
Scary Movies – I’m not usually a big fan of scary movies. I used to watch them with friends because I was indifferent, but I don’t usually seek them out โ that is, until this month. I decided I wanted to see some classic scary movies, so we’ve been watching a variety of them all month long, which has been fun. Some of them are in the collage below, as well as some fun “spooky” themed drinks we made to go with.
Local Library – I just got my first library card since I was probably 9, if that, and I’m really excited about it. I checked out a couple books, and we’ve been getting several of our scary movies from there, as well. Ever since I started reading more, the idea of this endless supply of reading materials has become pretty exhilarating.
Drive-in Movies – Drive-ins are underrated, and I hope they make a comeback with the pandemic happening. We went to one last weekend to see Nightmare on Elm Street, and it did not disappoint.
Schitt’s Creek – I could have sworn I had featured this show in my favorites before, but I can’t find it so it’s making the list this month. We started watching this show a long time ago, and while I thought it was bizarre, I also enjoyed the simplicity of it. Now, with the last season just ending (and each of them winning awards for their roles), I’ve grown attached to the quirky family. Also, I highly recommend the “Schitt’s Creek: Best Wishes, Warmest Regards” documentary on Netflix that goes through their last season of filming. It gave me all the feels.
Jar of Chopped Garlic – I was always turned off to the idea of pre-chopped garlic for some reason. But Matt picked it up awhile ago, and it’s been such a wonderful convenience. I still have and use fresh garlic sometimes, but having this available makes me use garlic more often and takes some prep work out of cooking.
Native Deodorant – This is not sponsored, but I felt the need to share this deodorant. I’ve been wanting a natural deodorant without aluminum in it for awhile, but I needed something that worked, so I was hesitant to shell out for various products that most likely wouldn’t suffice. Well thanks to my sister for doing the groundwork for me, I decided to give the Native brand a chance. While it doesn’t minimize actual sweating (since it’s not an antiperspirant), I’ve found it works well for me in regard to controlling odor. Although it’s definitely expensive (approx. $12 per tube), I think it’s worth the price to avoid the health risks of aluminum in most deodorants.
Exploding Kittens – We love this game so much. It’s a card game that’s shockingly entertaining, especially the NSFW version. The classic Exploding Kittens game is probably just as fun, but the absolutely ridiculous images and wording on this deck’s cards definitely make things more interesting. We’ve played this game like 20 times in the past 2 weeks. No regrets about this purchase from Target.
Vaseline on Pumpkins – I had heard squirrels love chewing on fresh pumpkins (especially this year), and considering we have squirrels coming out the wazoo, I chose to take a preventative defense against them. After doing some research on how to prevent squirrels from eating your pumpkins, I ultimately decided to try the vaseline method which allegedly keeps them away. Well after coating them in a thin later of vaseline, our shiny AF pumpkins are still free of damage from squirrels, so I’m sold on this method.
Dogs with Costumes That Have Arms – These videos of dogs in costumes running never gets old. The little fake arms just make them looks so funny. This one was featured on our news lately, and I found it too hilarious not to share.
