Guess who hasn’t gotten her healthy on these past few days? THIS girl.
It’s not my fault though. I have fallen ill. Therefore, my training schedule is all out of whack this week. I ran 9 miles Sunday and 4 on Monday. Instead of running my scheduled 36 miles, I only ran 13. Sucks, but what can I do? I’m just thankful this sickness happened now and not in the next few weeks when I need to do my really long runs in preparation for the marathon February 3rd (30 days let according to my countdown!)
Today, I’ll be busy packing for the move to San Diego that will most likely begin on Sunday. I was planning to do a lot yesterday, but I liked frequent naps and nothingness instead.
Now that you’re up-to-speed on my weak immune system, here is a recap of my New Year’s fun:
New Year’s Eve
I got all artsy and carved a cucumber. I mentioned this in Wednesday’s post. The hostesses of the party enjoy sharks and call their bun in the oven Baby Shark, so my sister liked the idea of carving a shark to put in the veggie dip.
It pretty much took up the entire bowl, but it’s all good. I was still proud of my work.
There was also a crazy amount of good food, most of which is not pictured because it kept showing up throughout the whole night as people arrived. Notice the cupcakes in the bottom right corner, though?
Yeah, those babies were a creation of yours truly. Who knew a box cake mix with such straight-forward directions could turn out so badly? To my delight, people still ate some of them, despite their horrid appearance. I swear they were still good! They just looked like they had mouths. Whoops.
Overall, it was nice to hang out with my favorite people before I move(denial is the only way to go at this point).
First kisses of the new year. Matt was mine, and I made it my mission to be my friend Becky’s first ‘kiss’ of the year.
Boys being boys.
My lovely sister.
A Few Days Later…
Matt and I went to Chicago to meet up with a few friends while he was home. It turned out to only be one, but it was still worth it and was a fun day.
We went to The Bean and took the mandatory cheesy picture…
We also went to the Planetarium and the Shedd Aquarium because we had a few free passes. By the way, I’m pretty sure I’ve never seen a seahorse in person because I couldn’t believe how cool they were.
That about sums my week up! Hope you’ve had a great start to the new year as well.
Have a great weekend hopefully free of sickness!
Now tell me…
What did you end up doing for New Year’s Eve? Fun things? Boring things? I need to know.
Ever been to Chicago? What’s your favorite sight to see?
Do you have any remedies that you swear by to get rid of a cold faster? I can use all the help I can get!

Wish you the best in CA, Katie! I’ll miss seeing you run by (so will Ellie)!

What a fun way to celebrate your last days in Chicago! I wouldn’t worry too much about the training- it’s not the be all end all of the world. Enjoy it! That’s cute about the first kisses of the year 🙂

Thanks! I appreciate the words of encouragement on the training. I’m trying to worry too much about it since I still have a month left. Just a little bump in the road.
Ash says
Aww that’s sweet! (You being Becky’s first kiss of 2013).

I’m just about better by now. I have an annoying cough, but that’s about it. Glad you’re all healed up!
