My Pushup Challenge Recap

August 12, 2013 by Katie

Good morning!

Isn’t it just a beautiful day to … sleep through?

We were out late last night partying it up at a wedding, so I’m a little less thrilled than normal about this Monday morning. It was all worth the fun we had last night though.

It was an absolutely gorgeous wedding in downtown San Diego. The ceremony was on Coronado and overlooking the bay and downtown. The reception was at the top of an apartment building? in a gorgeous spot, overlooking the following:

(Click on the picture for a bigger view of the panoramic picture.)

That would be more of downtown San Diego, Petco park, and the Coronado bridge. It was hard to not stare at all night–I definitely broke away to dance though (and I have some mad blisters on my feet to prove it). Overall, it was a great, small wedding. Every part of it was sweet, and I felt honored to be a part of it. Congrats Tom and Kelly. 🙂

The 30/30 Pushup Challenge Recap

Exactly a month ago, I began the 30/30 Pushup Challenge, which had me working from 5 to 30 pushups in 30 days with proper form in mind. On a scale of easy to I’m-about-to-die, the pushup challenge was probably a I-can-do-this-but-it-sucks. That’s because I hate pushups, as I have mentioned many times before. I’m quite proud of myself though. Matt did the challenge with me everyday, which was awesome. He also watched my form to make sure I wasn’t slacking…which wasn’t always my favorite. I guess you could say I’m not the best at accepting criticism during a workout. I like to think I improved though.

As the pushup numbers got larger, I ended up breaking them into sets to total the number for the day. Typically, I started with 1o or 15 pushups, then did 5 or 10 at a time. While this wasn’t ideal, it helped me finish the numbers each day and not die. I didn’t take more than 5 or 10 seconds between sets–I just needed to shake out the burn to finish the numbers.

It was cool to see my progress every week since I was doing just a little bit at a time. It’s crazy thinking how hard 5 pushups were a month ago and how much better I am at doing them now. I think my arms are showing the work at this point with a tiny bit more definition—nothing too drastic, but I like to think there’s improvement.

I don’t like how I finished the challenge and what, now I’m done? But I’m not ready to up the number to 50, especially since I had to break them into sets. THEREFORE, I am redoing it. Yep, you heard me. I’m starting over at day 1. Why? So I can work harder at keeping great form and do them all. at. once. I think I have a good base right now, but I don’t want to move on unless it’s legit…and I can do them all without stopping.

And those are my thoughts on my beginner’s pushup challenge. 🙂 Hope you all have a great Monday!

Hello Katie, great to see you have had amazing party time in the wedding. I like the tough attitude within you. Pushup is a huge challenge to keep body fit following through. I honestly saying I can do not more than 20 pushups at once. The coolest wedding party I’ve ever been on my dearest and best friend Pammy. Thanks.
