When we lived in San Diego, I would often forget what month was. And I’m not talking like…it was August and I thought it was July. I’d straight-up forget the time of year. It would be December, and I’d think it was July. That’s just what happens when the [beautiful] weather never changes.
Now that we’re in Chicago, I’m shocked that I still have the same problem. While the weather is most definitely changing, I’m cooped up inside a lot during the week as I work from home, which makes me forget what time of year it is. At least now it’s more of a…is it winter? fall? All I know is it’s not summer, but thankfully that’s fast approaching!
March has been full of adventures as we’ve been branching out more in the city during the warmer weather. Take a look at all the things I’ve been loving!
March Favorites
Chicago River Being Dyed Green – I finally did something I’ve been wanting to do for years: see the river get dyed bright green for St. Patrick’s Day! The city was very much alive that Saturday, and while it was difficult to find an open spot with everyone standing along the edge of the river, it was cool to see!
Warmer Weather – Spring has sprung!! We’ve started taking advantage of the fun Chicago neighborhood we live in (now that it’s getting warmer) by going on long walks, which has taken us to Lake Michigan a few times. The last time we went there, there was ice along the coast but was mostly open water. I miss being close to the ocean in San Diego, but as long as I’m near a body of water, I’m a very happy girl. And Lake Michigan has not disappointed so far.
Fresh Herbs – I gave away all my fresh herb plants before we moved, which was sad (especially my big basil plant). I’ve started planting some lately indoors, and seeing them thrive (i.e., parsley and cilantro) has been amazing. Now, if only I could stop killing the basil by overwatering the seeds…
Thank You, Next by Ariana Grande – This lady’s music (along with a lot of other pop music lately) is my guilty pleasure. I’ve been really liking her new album, especially, with songs like “bloodline,” “7 rings,” and “break up with your girlfriend, I’m bored.”
Board Games at Bars – Shout-out to any bars and breweries that have a stash of board games. It’s such a fun way to liven things up while enjoying some bevies.
Zinger Herbal Teas – I’ve been drinking tea for what feels like all day every day. I’ve been wanting more decaf options, though, because I can only do so much caffeine before I get the jitters. I tried a different version of this Zinger tea awhile ago and liked it, so I picked up this raspberry flavor. It tastes like straight-up juice, but it’s just herbal tea with no weird additives. I highly recommend it if you want a fruity beverage to sip on!
Good Morning by Max Frost – This song is the epitome of good vibes (hence why it’s on my Good Vibes workout playlist).
PB Mixer Hack – Anyone else struggle like woa to stir peanut or almond butter that has separated? As I was attempting to stir a new jar of peanut butter (and horribly failing, spilling oil over the sides), I had an idea: could one side of an electric mixer get this job done without spilling? Yes, yes it can. Try it. It’s life-changing.
Chicago L Train – I’ve never felt very comfortable on public transportation because I have no idea what I’m doing, and I’d just prefer to drive places, I guess. But Matt and I have been utilizing “the L” at least a few times per week to go downtown, and it has been a game-changer. I highly recommend it if you ever find yourself in Chicago!
What are some things you’ve been enjoying over the past month?
