July has been an interesting month. I’m about halfway through my 30 days of yoga, which has been going very well. I’ve had multiple people ask me about it, so I think I’ll dedicate an entire post to a recap once I’m officially done.
Over the past few weeks, especially, it’s started to real heat up here in San Diego and no me gusta. Matt and I went paddleboarding earlier in the month, which was nice and refreshing. Besides that and few other outdoor adventures, I’ve mostly been staying inside because the sun and I don’t get along.
Despite the sweaty weather, I’ve been enjoying some new finds and experiences. Take a look below at my latest favorites!
July Favorites
Ice Cream Cone Flights – As I mentioned above, Matt and I went paddleboarding, and afterwards, I demanded a trip to an ice cream place. I’m always in the mood for ice cream, but the reason we walked two miles to this establishment was not just for your average ice cream cone. I had heard of their ice cream “flights” and knew I had to make this happen. I got a combo of three little cones, and Matt got four. You can get as many as your heart desires, and if you’re feeling crazy, there’s even an option to get a flight with all 32 ice cream flavors. Sounds like a party to me!
Local Art – There are these “art in the park” type events regularly around San Diego (such as in Balboa Park and at a park in Coronado), and I’ve come to really love them. We’ve bought a small painting in the past and then this piece from a photographer more recently. It’s fun to walk around these little events, but I’ve also found that having local art in our apartment is a little more meaningful than mass-produced art (which I have nothing against, but I fail at buying).
Sailing to Nowhere by Broken Bells – I shared a song from Broken Bells a few months back, but I had to share another one because I’ve been playing it on repeat lately.
Bullet Journals – I think I like the idea of bullet journals more than actually creating them. Apparently there’s an actual system to the organization of bullet journals, but I’ve just always viewed them as…journals/planners/whatever you want…but artsy. I bought this notebook a few months ago to start my own; it has the dot “gridlines” to help you draw neatly and make it look pretty. I’ve been working in it a little bit, and it’s fun to look up new ideas (e.g., page with a bookshelf filled with the books you’ve read / are reading, theatre-themed page with movies on your to-watch list, a countdown list, etc.). I definitely have a long way to go to make this more functional though.
GT’s Kombucha – Kombucha is a fermented tea beverage that makes health claims of being good for your gut. I tried it awhile back out of sheer curiosity, and enjoyed how it wasn’t sweet, but still had great flavor and was slightly carbonated. I now get kombucha pretty frequently because it’s a nice change of pace. GT’s is a brand that has some good options; you can probably find them at your local grocery store.
Dogs in Food IG – This Instagram account is hilarious and disturbing. I’ve had a few people share this with me, which makes me browse through the pictures all over again. It’s so ridiculous and wonderful—and kudos to the artist’s photoshop abilities!
Fake Succulents – I need to retract a favorite I shared in April: baby succulents. I think I’ve bought like 3-4 little succulents over the past few years, and half died a quick death while the others are…sickly, to say the least. Living succulents are clearly not my jam, but it turns out fake plants are easy to maintain. 😉 I’ve been looking for some fake yet realistic-looking succulents like this one for awhile, but they usually look very plastic. I got this one over the weekend at Cost Plus World Market, and I wish I would have bought a few more!
Toto Cover By Weezer – I’ve always liked Weezer, but Weezer is not the reason why I love this cover. I just love Toto by Africa, so the fact that it’s frequently played on the radio now because of this new cover? Yes, I am so in.
Broccolini – I didn’t know broccolini existed until we ordered it as a side at this steak house in Las Vegas one time. It’s more expensive than regular broccoli, and it tastes confusingly delicious. Broccolini is “baby broccoli”—though it’s apparently the love child of broccoli and Chinese broccoli. It has smaller florets, longer stalks, and some leaves—all of which you can and want to eat.
