January Favorites

January 29, 2020 by Katie

The new year is in full swing! It’s been an exciting January so far (most notably, the beginning of our hunt for the perfect house), and I can’t wait to see what happens in the coming months (hopefully buying a house)!

In addition to our quest to become home owners, I’ve been enjoying a lot of new things this past month—from tasty food and chill music to stylish purchases and new habits. Take a look at all of my favorites below!

January Favorites

Book Journal – This was my post from last Friday, but I had to highlight it in my monthly favorites because I’m loving it that much. I started keeping a book journal as a way to improve my memory of books and help me reflect throughout each story. It’s been so helpful already, and while it requires some extra time and effort, it’s been making my time spent reading that much more impactful.

Goodreads – I’m late to the Goodreads world, but it’s been a wonderful discovery as I continue looking for books I’m interested in. In addition to being a great resource for researching books, it reminds me of a social media site, almost—but book-themed. I recommend joining if you want to explore new books and genres, read reviews of ones you’re interested in, and see what old/new friends are reading.

LED Plant Light – Matt randomly purchased this a couple years ago because one of our plants wasn’t doing well, due to lack of sunlight. Well this light seemed to do the trick, because the plant perked up shockingly fast. We had to bust it out again recently because, yet again, we live in an apartment that lacks adequate sunlight for plant life. It’s already helping improve the health of our plants, so I needed to share how magical it is in case your plants could use some extra love/sun, too. I’m not sure which one we have, but it’s very similar to this Amazon one.

Fast Talk by Houses – I’ve really started to like the vibe of this chill song. It’s one of the songs that starts playing after my Spotify queue is done because it’s similar to a lot of other music I play in the background.

Sporto Marmal Bootie – One of the best shoe purchases I’ve made, hands down. They’re practical in many ways: comfortable, waterproof, and a zipper for easy on/off (though they still tie). I wanted boots that could look stylish but also provide traction and warmth if it’s icy/snowy out. They work perfectly for that, without having to commit to full-on snow boots.

Sriracha Almonds – Okay, this was technically a stocking stuffer for Matt, but I definitely ate most of this container. Best seasoned almonds ever.

Layered Necklaces – I’m a sucker for layered necklaces, so I gradually pieced together two based on looks I’ve been seeing and loving. One is from Amazon (long with single coin); the other is from Francesca’s (shorter one). I’ve seen sets that look similar to this pairing, though, on both of those sites if you’re interested!

Ultimate Green Smoothie – I’ve been on a smoothie kick lately, but not just for any smoothie—this one exactly. So many veggies… heal my cold! Visit my Ultimate Green Smoothie post for the recipe, if you’re interested.

Flirty Dancing – This is a new show hosted by an actress/celebrity I really like (Jenna Dewan), and it’s such a sweet concept (which first started in the UK). Yes, it’s a reality show, but it matches couples by introducing them as they perform a dance (they’ve learned separately) together. It’s pretty darn cute.
