These Are a Few of My Favorite Things

October 24, 2012 by Katie

Today’s Run: 14 miles/2:13 …AKA, farther than I have ever run before! I think I have found the secret to finishing a super long run: zoning out. Okay, not completely zoning out because that’s just dangerous and stupid. When my mind is clear, I tend to focus way too much on how tired and am. Today,…

All About Mushrooms

October 23, 2012 by Katie

It’s the vegetable fungus we all a few of us love. Mushrooms used to repulse me, but over the past few years a love has developed. It started with me liking raw mushrooms on salads and then transitioned into my love of them cooked—the canned version I’m still leery about. There are so many wonderful reasons why you should…

Studies We Love to Hear About

October 19, 2012 by Katie

Is it just me or are there constantly new studies coming out about how chocolate is good for us? I feel like I’ve been hearing about it quite frequently lately. Don’t get me wrong—it’s a great discovery. I just find it funny how the media seems to be trying to make us feel better about…

These Are a Few of My Favorite Things

October 17, 2012 by Katie

This morning I died a little inside, over a 2 hour and 4 minute period. I went for my long run this week—a.k.a. 13 miles, and holy wow…it was difficult. I was way too aware of how many miles I had ahead of me, and it caused the whole run to be frustrating and seem…

Chocolate Peanut Butter Soft Serve

For the longest time, I’ve been wanting to try the frozen banana ice cream concoction I mentioned in my Weird Foods You Need to Try post quite awhile ago. This morning I was trying to think of something fun to make, and after finding a bunch of frozen banana slices, I knew exactly what to…

Challenge Yourself

October 12, 2012 by Katie

Before I get into the main point of this post, I just want to say that today I return to my alma mater for homecoming festivities. This is my 2nd year out of school and my first time going back. Now that my friends and I have dispersed throughout the state, country, and even world,…

The Pinterest Effect

October 8, 2012 by Katie

The Weekend Guess what I spent all day Saturday doing… …building shelves! I pulled out my awesome sister/sister-in-law card and helped with some home improvement for my sis and bro-in-law’s new house. From 11am to 8pm, I was diligently painting and building. The combination of doing the dumbbell workout that morning plus working on shelves…

Why oh why do I so often do leg workouts the day before a long run? I used to do this a lot without realizing it. Well, yesterday I did a lower body strength workout, and my legs were so tired today. Somehow I was able to run my planned 11 miles for this week’s long…

Grapes and Being Ungraceful

October 2, 2012 by Katie

Easy Jerk Chicken

It’s crazy how normal it has become to eat foods without much nutritious value, yet take supplements and medicines to try to make up for it. It’s like we’re trying to find an easy way out without having to change our habits. But if you think about it, what really makes the difference is going…

2 Recipes: Baked Spaghetti + Greek Yogurt Cookies

September 26, 2012 by Katie

Sometimes a classic recipe needs some extra oomph. After finding some frozen ground beef in the freezer (imagine that), I decided to make some spaghetti. I don’t know about you, but I get sick of spaghetti sometimes. It’s good, but it’s just spaghetti. For some reason, food seems more exciting when it’s baked, at least…
