Whelp, we had a weird/enjoyable weekend.
In Friday’s post, I mentioned the boy and I were going to have a cliché date night and be grossly cute, but that didn’t happen. Our desire to hang out and lay low got the best of us. We did have a precious morning on Saturday, though, because we went ice skating! When I was little, I would ice skate every year on the lake near our house, but I haven’t been able to go in yeeeears, so this was quite delightful.
Matt had never been ice skating before, so I was expecting a clumsy, rail-hugging beginner, but that was not the case. This boy is full of surprises, I tell you. He went on the ice and just…started skating. I was flabbergasted. He tells me it’s from his years of roller blading as a child, but I’m convinced he leads a secret life, where he is a figure skating pro. Either way, it turned out to be a great way to spend the morning.
The next morning we had this intense workout planned, but it didn’t get so far. The reason is this…
We drove to the beach to go on a run and then do some other bodyweight exercises, but the only part that happened was the run. You see, there is this section of the beach that is considered the “dog beach,” where people bring their dogs to let run around. It’s really quite wonderful. So we were running, got to that point, and found ourselves surrounded by tons of adorable dogs overly excited about playing catch in the water. Just when we thought it couldn’t get any better, this couple came with six big dogs, who were all freaking out because of the excitement. The “gaggle of dogs,” as Matt referred to them, was quite precious.
The point of the story is…it was one of the best things I have seen in awhile. So much excitement and cuteness. Gah!
The rest of the weekend I spent preparing for turkey day! Matt and I are just hanging out by ourselves and doing our own meal on Thursday, so I’m determined to make some delicious food. I demanded we make a real turkey because I’ve always wanted to try but have been too scared. Since it’s just us, there’s less pressure. So here’s hoping it goes well!
I have gathered the family recipes I want to make…
And even made one way ahead of time because…I could. Recipe to come tomorrow.
I keep remembering I only have a three-day work week and get ridiculously happy. Oh the beauty of a four-day weekend. Sooo glorious.
Hope you all had a great weekend as well!
How are you celebrating Thanksgiving?
Who else loves ice skating?
What’s the weather like where you live? I’m starting to lose the concept of what it means to be “cold.” I hear it’s 25 degrees in some areas of the U.S., yet I find it hard to believe people are bundled up for some reason. San Diego is messing with my head. Even when it’s cold, it really isn’t. I was definitely wearing shorts and flip flops yesterday…
