A Few of My Favorite Things

April 15, 2015 by Katie

Over the past couple weeks, Matt and I have set out to jazz up our tiny little backyard thing. It’s more like a porch situation, but we’re calling it our “backyard” because it’s more exciting. I’m super excited about all the plants we have, but we wanted to make the area a bit more cozy to actually hang out at night and on the weekends. This past weekend, we made a few purchases that we’re both pretty pumped about.

Adirondack chairs – the best lawn chairs ever. So funny story: we got these on Sunday; carried them to my car; and proceeded to struggle getting them into my car for what felt like an hour. SOMEHOW by the grace of God, they both fit, but I can’t even tell you how ridiculous we looked in the parking lot of Home Depot trying every possible angle to make these fit through the juuuust too small door spaces.

The second [equally exciting] purchase – string lights. We got some indoor/outdoor large classic-looking string lights. The goal was to hang these up across our “backyard” but we were about a foot too short. So we opted to wrap them around our three-headed palm tree. I must say…it’s pretty friggin awesome at night, lighting up the whole area.

Slowly but surely, this place is feeling more homey. 🙂 See below for more of my latest favorites!

These Are a Few of My Favorite Things

My Future Listography (All I Hope to Do in Lists) – I stumbled upon this book last night that my sister got me like five years ago. She and I both love lists, and I can’t believe I’ve never used this. It has a fun collection (I mean, it’s an entire book’s worth) of list ideas – like places I want to go, habits to break, favorite movies, etc.

Book of Lists

Peanut Butter to Remove Adhesive – I love keeping bottles/jars to make crafty things with them, but the leftover residue from the sticker adhesive is my enemy. I recently discovered the magic of peanut butter. This chunky peanut butter worked surprisingly well to remove the stickiness from the below wine bottle. I highly recommend trying it if you have the same problem.

PB on Adhesive

Barrel Republic – So there’s this bar in San Diego called Barrel Republic, and we love it. You get a wrist band attached to your card; the room is lined with taps; when you want to try a specific beer, you scan your wristband with the scanner on the wall. Boom, you pour as much as you want. It’s the best beer tasting place ever. That is all.

Barrel Republic

Fruity Cheerios – They’re like Fruit Loops but more nutritious. I’m not saying they’re the healthiest option out there, but hot damn, they are delicious. We have a box…err..half a box. We’ll see how long they last.

Fruity Cheerios

Elastic Heart by Sia – Love this song and Sia in general.
