As horrible as morning workouts are, I’m really missing them these days.
I wrote a post awhile back about motivation to workout in the morning, and two months later I got a full-time job (yay!) and wasn’t able to workout until later in the day (womp womp).
Although it’s hard to get up early to go for a run…and I often start out looking like this:
It’s sooo worth it compared to running when it’s super hot outside (aka what it’s like when I get home from work). Although I don’t have enough daylight/time to fit in a run before work anymore, I discovered a way to have a similar weather experience:
If I time it just right, and put off relaxing, dinner, and whatever else when I get home from work, I can recreate the awesomeness that is a cool, morning run. Since I don’t like running in the dark (cars are blind enough to me running in daylight, let alone darkness), I go out with just enough time before the sun sets, and it is absolutely perfect. (This idea of waiting for it to cool down outside is super obvious groundbreaking, I realize.)
I usually try to knock out my workout immediately after work, but last night, I waited about an hour or 2 to do my 7-mile run, and it was too wonderful not to recreate. Yes, I couldn’t eat dinner until about 7:30pm, which was quite unfortunate, but I’m starting to think shifting my nightly activities is worth an improved run (especially since a lot of them are emotional long runs like I talked about on Monday).
Moral of the story, switching up the workout schedule can lead to great discoveries…like how avoiding the sun makes running more pleasant.
Rambling over.

These Are a Few of My Favorite Things
I’ve Been Working Out. I like this strategy. I usually just throw a hat on and pretend like no one can see me.
Dark Chocolate Almond Milk. I mostly drink almond milk these days, instead of regular milk. Every time I see this stuff, I’m tempted to buy it. Well, I finally did it on our last grocery trip. It didn’t really occur to me that there would be a bunch of sugar (I usually get unsweetened), so this is such an indulgence for me. I’ve been making oatmeal with this chocolate milk, and it’s ridiculous — ridiculously good.
Watermelon Rice Krispies. Is this not the cutest thing ever? I love the fun possibilities of rice krispy treats.
Cereal in a Mug. I don’t know why, but I love eating cereal out of mugs. If I’m eating it as a meal, it must be in a bowl, but if it’s a snack, I always go to the mug. I think it has something to do with portion control and me feeling like it’s less of a commitment. Sure.
The Best Way to Cheer Yourself Up. It makes sense if you think about it.
