There are officially 40 days until Easter!
Hopefully, this means winter stops being a jerk to all you people not located in the Southwest. For my family’s sake in Illinois, I want spring to get here ASAP. Plus, it’s my favorite season, even though I can’t really enjoy it here like in the Midwest. I’ll miss seeing all the flowers blooming and trees getting their leaves back. In San Diego, everything just kind of stays beautiful. It’s rough.
So as most of you are aware, with these days leading to Easter comes lent. I didn’t grow up participating in lent, but as an adult (ha) I like the idea of making a sacrifice or using the period as a reason to take up a good habit of sorts. I don’t even remember if I did anything last year, but two years ago I gave up cereal, which was pretty crazy for me. Ever since then, though, I haven’t been obsessed with the sugary goodness, so it really worked out for the best. I ended up falling in love with peanut butter banana oatmeal, which I eat daily now.
This year, I’ve put a lot of thought into it, and after not being able to think of anything, I’m going with something generic: I’m giving up candy.
I’ve been eating a lot of chocolate and jelly beans lately (not together), so I figured this might be a good plan for me to get it together. The exclusion for this will be gum. Gum actually helps me not eat candy and other sweets.
How about you? Are you giving anything up for lent? Adding anything?
These Are a Few of My Favorite Things
Motivational Quote: The person from yesterday. Always important to remember. We’re all built differently, and we may experience progress differently. Whether you’re concerned with your appearance, your strength, or whatever else, make sure you’re working to improve yourself, not to be someone else.
Song: Odyssey by The Wyld. Pretty sure this was made popular exclusively by the McDonalds commercial. I know my Spotify wouldn’t let me go a day without hearing this during the Olympics. After finding this song, I can’t stop listening to it.
Workout Excuse: Looks like rain. This is the story of my life. I actually like running in the rain, but I’ve become a professional excuse maker for why it’s okay to not workout. Don’t hang out with me. It’s in your best interest.
Dessert: Nutella Stuffed French Toast with Macerated Strawberries. Are you ever afraid of trying a recipe because you know it’s going to be amazing? This is one of those things for me. I fear how good this could be.

YESSSSSSSSS, freakin love that song. So I took another one of those quizzes, haha, and it was a “What should you give up for Lent?” quiz. My results were: nothing. It said I should start DOING something that I don’t do enough of. Just an idea for you or others who are trying to think of things to do/give up/whatever. I’m debating if I want to just create a better Bible reading plan and make that my focus for Lent.

Haha “nothing.” I considered adding something but couldn’t think of anything!! Therefore, candy it is. Your idea seems legit though!
