Quote of the Day: The Perfect Diet

March 10, 2017 by Katie

Every time I jump onto social media, I’m bombarded by posts about the latest foods I should or should not be eating. Kale? Magic. Avocado? Put it in and on everything. Fried food? THE HORROR. I’m not surprised how popular these articles have become, considering they’re basically promising the secrets to achieving our health goals.

It’s such a weird phenomenon, this need to constantly be searching for the so-called “perfect diet.” With promises of looking like celebrities, feeling superhuman, and fixing all of our problems, who wouldn’t want to find that!?

Well, amidst my mindless scrolling online recently, I stumbled across a quote that resolved this madness in such a clean and concise way.

There's no such thing as a perfect diet.

Straight-up, what we’re searching for doesn’t exist. “Perfect” is such a relative term when it comes to what’s best for our bodies, because we don’t have one uniform set of needs or goals. So many factors influence how a person should eat. The right diet for you depends on things like age, genetics, activity level, preferences, lifestyle, health conditions, and so much more. It can be easy to over-simplify this, though, and get caught up with trying to find the ideal menu of foods.

Since March is National Nutrition Month, I wanted to give a big shout-out to everyone who’s making an effort to be healthier—especially with all the contradictory info out there. In the end, we’re all different; we all have varying nutritional needs, and what works for one person might not work for the next. Just remember that the next time you try a product or strategy someone you trust endorses. You do you. 😉

It wasn’t until about eight years ago that I really started thinking about what I was putting into my body. Since then, I’ve learned what eating habits help me feel my best. I shared seven of these in my food philosophy post if you want to check it out. They might not be your thing, but they’re how I maintain a healthy, happy weight.

When it comes down to it, “perfecting” our diets is a never-ending experiment, one that can be pretty darn delicious and exciting if you let it!

What are some foods or eating habits you swear by?

Are you drawn towards posts/articles about the latest exciting miracle foods? These are definitely a guilty pleasure of mine; I tend to click since I love discovering interesting new foods.
