Being M.I.A. is my new way of life. We’ve been extremely busy over the past month (more details below), so for the first time ever, I’ve been choosing to take longer breaks from blogging. But I couldn’t miss the chance to share some of the exciting things happening in my life lately, so I had to pop back in to share my monthly favorites!
Keep reading to learn about the big changes happening in my life, plus some of the ways I’ve stayed entertained during the past month.

Moving into Our New House – It’s been a weird process amidst COVID-19, but we closed on our new house a few weeks ago! We’ve been working like crazy to move out of our apartment and get our new home in order. I’ve been thriving off of the exciting transition, and I’ve become the obnoxious person in Fitbit challenges that gets up to 20K steps daily. Apparently if you have the right motivation, hours upon hours of physical labor ain’t no thang.
Our Family – I’d like to give a shout-out to our family for all of the help and support they’ve provided throughout the craziness of the past month. Painting over several days, lending us a plethora of supplies, dropping off food, moving our boxes in the heat, and advising us on how to best take care of a houseโall of their help has made the process SO much smoother and less overwhelming.
Squirrel Picnic Table – Thanks to our BIL, we are now the proud owners of this lovely house-warming gift: a mini picnic table for squirrels! I saw this story/picture on the news a month or so ago, and he made us our very own to have at our new house. While I’m hesitant to welcome more creatures into our yard, I also find it hilarious and I’m excited to see it in action.
Rural Diaries – Although celebrity memoirs are my guilty pleasure, I’m often surprised when I truly love them. Hilarie Burton Morgan’s new book is possibly my most favorite read from a celebrity. She details her journey from living in L.A. as an actress to moving to a small town and buying a farm with her husband. The way she writes her story and reflects on the meaning of it all really resonated with me. I am 100% reading this again, and probably soon. My only regret is buying the ebook instead of the physical copy.
The Office – It’s taken a long time, but I’ve officially caught The Office bug. Matt and I recently started the series from episode 1, and I’ve gotten hooked on the quirky characters and ridiculous storylines.
Cloth Mask with Nosepiece – As you can see in the first favorite on this list, I’ve been using a bandana as my mask when going places lately. It’s worked fine, but my glasses tend to fog up, which is such a pain. I didn’t think I cared about having a legitimate mask until my dad’s wife dropped some off that she had sewn. In addition to simply being more comfortable, I can’t get over how amazing having a bendy nosepiece is. It helps shape the mask under my glasses so they don’t fog up nearly as easily. And all it takes is a “tin tie” (the flexible fastener often attached to bags of coffee to close them). Mind = blown.
lovers’ carvings by Bibio – I have this song on a “Chillax” playlist I listen to all the time, and every time it pops up, I suddenly find myself in the best of moods. The uplifting vibe is good for the soul.
Quiplash – Another fun feature thanks to my BILโQuiplash is a hilarious online game that has prompts you’re supposed to answer. It’s a great test of wittiness, and we had a blast playing it for hours with my sister and BIL and Matt’s sister. Although it isn’t free, only one person needs to buy it for several others to play. I believe it only costs about $5 right now, and it’s a great way to pass the time and have fun with friends while we’re all still stuck at home social distancing.
Dead to Me – I’m not usually drawn to binge-watching shows, but once in awhile a series really sticks out. The second season of Dead to Me recently came out on Netflix, and just like season one, Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini are perfection in it.
