July Favorites

July 31, 2019 by Katie

Okay, this year is officially flying by. I swear we just got through the frigid winter, and now we’re on our way to the next one? Except I’m getting ahead of myself here, because it’s been HOT…so…hot this past month. Despite the heat and humidity, though, our summer adventures have not disappointed.

We’ve done some more exploring downtown, went to the Taste of Chicago for the first time, celebrated some birthdays, and spent some quality time with family who finally made it to our new digs!

For more highlights from this past month, check out some of the things I’ve been loving below.

July Favorites

Tortilla Blanket – This isn’t the picture I wanted to share, but it’ll have to work as a placeholder for now. I’m the proud new owner of a tortilla blanket, thanks to my SIL, which is amazing because I’ve actually wanted one of these for awhile (as weird as that is)!

Three Dots & a Dash Tiki Bar – My sister and BIL visited us last weekend, and one of the fun new places we tried was this speakeasy-style tiki bar! Looooved it if you need a fun place for drinks in downtown Chicago!

Brazil by Declan McKenna – No idea how I stumbled upon this song, but it’s been on my Currently Loving playlist for at least a month now. It’s just a good sound I can’t seem to get sick of.

Banza Pasta – I see this pasta advertised all the time, so it pains me a bit to subject myself (and you) to even more remarketing. BUT I picked this up on a whim at Target, and it was way better than I was expecting! Since it’s made from chickpeas, it has more protein and fiber than your average pasta, and it has less carbs. I’ve had red lentil pasta before, and I wasn’t a fan. This chickpea pasta, however, I could happily eat on a regular basis. Though I will say eating it as leftovers wasn’t as good because it was falling apart.

Can We Hang On by Cold War Kids – I never knew how much I liked Cold War Kids until the past 6 months or so. I keep finding new songs that I love by them, this being one of the most recent.

Imposters – I’m not easily hooked on shows, but after very randomly deciding to start watching this on Netflix, I was all about it. There are only 2 seasons (and it has since been cancelled), but I recommend it!

Steamed Veggies – Roasted broccoli, roasted Brussels sprouts, roasted any veggie…they just taste better when there’s a slight char and crunch to them. I think I’ve been doing that for so long, though, that I decided to steam some veggies to use them up recently, and I was surprised by how much I enjoyed them. Sometimes you gotta go back to the basics!
