It’s time to say sayonara to 2016 and welcome 2017 with renewed hope and excitement. The past year has been full of good, bad, and ugly happenings (I recall hearing a friend compare it to a dumpster fire), and I think it’s about time we all turn the page to see what comes next in this crazy story of life.
For me 2016 wasn’t too terrible. I got married to my favorite partner in crime, and I gained the most perfect niece a girl could ask for. In regards to my 2016 resolutions, I actually didn’t do too shabby, but there’s definitely a lot more I want to improve upon.
As we near the start of 2017, I’ve decided this is going to be the year of fitness for me. I tried so many exciting new activities in the past 12 months, and it has taught me there is so much more I want to do!
Being active and getting strong makes me feel healthy and confident. So why stop exploring? I’m only gaining momentum. I encourage you to join me by trying new things, as well, and following even the slightest interests you have (whether in fitness or elsewhere) to see where they take you!
Enter the world of bodybuilding. I find female bodybuilding so unbelievably fascinating and intriguing. Although I don’t have the desire to compete, I’ve found myself becoming increasingly more interested and excited at the possibility of getting serious about weight lifting as part of a healthy lifestyle. Which leads me to…
Complete the 12-week LiveFit Trainer program. Whaaaa? Ya, more to come on this Monday. ๐ But basically, I plan to start a variation of this program by Jamie Eason in a couple weeks, and I am SO excited…and also a little scared…but mostly really excited.
Run a 5K. This one feels weird to share because I keep shutting down the idea anytime anyone says they want to run a race. While I’m still actively recovering from IT Band Syndrome, I recently made it to 3.25 miles (with my ProTec compression strap), so I know it’s possible. I haven’t run a race since 2014, so I think this could be an uplifting adventure (though I’d try to mentally prepare to have to finish it walking).
Add to our home gym. 90% of my workouts are done in our house. I have no gym membership, nor do I want to get one at this point in time. As a result, I’m slowly acquiring versatile equipment for my at-home circuit workouts. Since a goal for this next year is to do more weight lifting, I think it’s time to add a few more items. “Darn.”
Explore more of the local hiking trail scene. I’ve hiked more in this past year than I have in the rest of my 4 years in San Diego combined. However, there are so many more trails I want to trek through! One that specifically has caught my eye is Potato Chip Rock and is, according to many people, a fairly difficult hike. Someday soon, I’m going to set a date and drag Matt out bright and early for a sweat-tastic journey!
Continue trying new activities. This isn’t something I’m going to aggressively pursue, but it’s definitely a goal I want to actively work towards. In 2016, I tried several new fitness adventures, and I’m hoping there will be a handful more in the next 12 months. It’s fun to keep trying different areas of fitness to see what I end up liking. Plus, I might have some sort of hidden talent I haven’t discovered yet. Shh…just let me think what I want.
I hope you have the best New Year’s Eve, and I’ll be seeing you in 2017!
What are some goals you hope to achieve in the new year?
What are your top highlights from 2016?
How will you be ringing in the new year? NYE party? Chillaxing at home? In bed before midnight?

You got married and say that 2016 wasn’t too terrible? Haha.
But I hope you will do great also in 2017. I believe that anything can happen. So i’ll do what I have to do and also run those 5k :)) Good luck for you and me ๐

Bahaha you’re so right. 2016 wasn’t even close to terrible in regards to my personal life. And thank you for the encouragement! Good luck to you as well in your goals for the next year. ๐

I am also considering doing a 5k.. I’m not even close to being a runner so I searched for ways to train myself and there’s an app called C25K(couch to 5k).. it’s a 8-9 week program to train your body to get used to jogging/running. I’m hoping this works cause I would like to cross this 5k thing off my bucket list lol ๐

Yes! I’ve heard of couch to 5k programs. Best of luck to you! There are so many fun 5Ks out there.
