Just Get It Done

December 2, 2016 by Katie

Is it possible to get an adrenaline high without actually working out? Because I’m pretty sure that happened to me a couple days ago as I was reading through inspirational fitness quotes.

I’ve actually been really on top of working out recently, and I feel so proud to say that. It’s such an easy thing to just…stop doing because [insert one of the millions of excuses you could come up with]. I credit this to my attitude, which resembles my mindset I had when I was in my workout prime a few years ago.

A couple weeks ago, I had a moment of clarity. I told Matt, “Well, I should workout today, buuuuuut…” Then I cut myself off and thought to myself, “Wait, if I should workout, then I’ll just go workout—right now.” Then we went on a run amidst a pretty lazy day, when I’d normally have a difficult time convincing myself to get active.

This reminds me of my post about ways to motivate yourself to workout (when it’s the last thing you want to do). My bonus tip was “just do it,” to which I explained that I hated that advice. I hate it because tough love sometimes shuts me down and de-motivates me. Then I realized I was looking at it the wrong way…

It’s not about forcing myself to do something I don’t want to do. I just need to stop myself from overthinking about it and just act on my desire to workout (albeit, a bit buried under laziness).

One fitness quote that really stuck out to me as I was reading through them earlier this week is the following:

Make time for it. Just get it done. Nobody ever got strong or got in shape by thinking about it. They did it.

Make time for it. Just get it done. Nobody ever got strong or got in shape by thinking about it. They did it. –Jim Wendler (an athlete and famous powerlifter)

And if this doesn’t help you “just get it done,” then visit my tips for restarting a workout schedule after a break. One of them is sure to stick!

How do you motivate yourself to workout?

What’s one of your favorite inspirational fitness quotes?
