Dat Ocean + Training Update {Week 3 Recap}

March 17, 2014 by Katie

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!!!

Are you doing anything super awesome and/or Irishy today? We’re not! I’m thinking I’ll wear my green jeans and call it a day. I was going to attempt to make corned beef and cabbage, but I have not been able to find the damn beef for the past two weeks (WHYYYYY). As a result, I have given up. I’ve never even had it before, so I don’t know what I’m missing out on. Maybe I’ll have better luck next year?

I figured I would spend today’s post sharing a bunch of pictures because…we took a lot of pictures this past weekend.

So here’s the deal: I love the idea of decorating, but I absolutely suck at it. I’m always seeing these awesome clusters of picture frames in people’s homes and absolutely love how it looks. A few weeks ago, I bought some different-sized frames from Ikea to attempt my own display, and we spent this past weekend utilizing our fancy new camera to hopefully take pictures to fill them. I was pretty excited to see how some of them turned out.

You can’t go wrong with ocean pictures!

Especially when there’s a sunset involved.

Also, it turns out I’m really bad at fake running.

But Matt is quite talented at heel clicking. I’m definitely not jealous. That’s a lie.

Okay, enough of ocean. Let’s get down to business.

Half marathon training.

Why on earth do people run? – Or at least that’s what I was wondering during my 7-mile run yesterday morning. By about mile 5.5, I was convinced I wasn’t going to go through with the race. (I guess you could say I get pretty dramatic and upset when I run.) Now I’m back to the mindset of…Running is good for you. You’ll feel great when you’re finished. It’ll be worth the grueling long runs.

Oy vey.

Then we went to Coronado to take more scenic pictures, and we definitely walked 4+ miles in the hot sun. It was quite the active day and made for an amazingly lazy Sunday evening – the best kind.

Overall, I guess you could say race training is going pretty well. I’ve got 6 weeks left before the race, which is great/awful. I’m ready to get that biddy over with another half marathon under my belt. As much as running can be…unfortunate…at times, I think it’s important to keep pushing myself to do it. I tend to get pretty sick of the maintenance runs and long training runs, but then there are randomly amazing runs where life just seems to make sense again.

Running is such a weird sport. A love/hate relationship is definitely what I have with it.

This weekend is going to really screw with my schedule since we’ll be in Vegas for Matt’s race, and I won’t have a lot of free time. I’m hoping to do a short treadmill run and a circuit workout or two in the hotel room. The 8-mile run will have to be pushed back a few days, but I think it’ll work out.
