Never Again…

December 16, 2013 by Katie

While watching the news yesterday, I found this pretty amusing:

Just a little Christmas music while admiring the…San Diego palm trees. Definitely weird to have 70-degree weather in the middle of December.

All the Christmas decorations, music, and upcoming plans help me remember it is not, in fact, the middle of the summer. You know what else helps? Getting the best present ever. Matt and I received the below crockpot late last week from his mother to help me with my overcooking chicken problem. When I was in the middle of my crockpot challenge, I had issues with overcooking everything food once in awhile because I leave so early for work and don’t get back till late. I’m pretty excited I can now just set the timer for the right amount of time and hopefully make food worth eating. So much for my excuse not to cook.

Saturday night was Matt’s work Christmas party, which turned out to be really fun. We got dressed up in festive clothes (please ignore my unfortunate bangs) and spent the evening hanging out with people, eating food (including the biggest, tastiest piece of cake ever), busting a move, and wishing I won that huge Keurig in the raffle. [womp womp]

Sunday, I got in a little over my head…with cookies…

For some reason, I decided we needed to decorate Christmas cookies. I never realized just how much work that is to prepare…and to clean up. Not sure which is worse: putting forth all that effort or fighting the urge to o.d. on cookies this week…

Lots and lots of cookies. They’re pretty tasty though, if I do say so myself. So…we’ve got that going for us, which is nice. I think it’s safe to say I won’t be making Christmas cookies again, unless they’re for someone else or more people are around to contribute (and take them home). So. Much. Sugar.

Now, I’ve just got to get through this week before I head home to Chicago! Words cannot describe how excited I am to hang out with my family. My weekly Skype session with my sister this weekend got a little out of control because of my giddiness. Sorry, Ash.

All I have to say is…this logistics thing of when I can see people on what days is insanely complicated. I don’t know how people do it that live far away from their family. As much as I look forward to my time at home, I can’t wait to not stress about flights and how I’m going to possibly fit everything into my visit.

It’ll definitely be an adventure. A very busy adventure.

Questions for you:

Are the holidays a chaotic time for you too?

What’s your favorite holiday tradition?

Besides seeing lots of fam, I love decorating cookies every year with friends. Even though we already decorated them this year, I’m really hoping I can fit that into my crazy schedule when I’m home.

Cant wait to see you. PS I was thinking the other day that you’ve lived in Cali almost a year…that’s crazy. This year flew by.

I know! It really has. So weird. And I’m sooo excited to see you and your family. Currently trying to figure out when I can go bridesmaid dress shopping. Too much to dooooo.

You look so great for the holiday party! I like your bangs!

Those cookies look amazing, but I’m with you there on how much work it is. I love sugar cookies with icing, but making them just seems so tedious so I never have. Maybe one day.

Well thank you! And if anything, you could always just make sugar cookies and put icing on them without spending the time to decorate them. Still more work than most cookie recipes, but it’s something different.
