Crazy 5K’s–My Next One

October 14, 2013 by Katie

Guess what I’m doing in less than two weeks…

Running a 5k apparently!

Matt and I just signed up last-minute to run the Crime Stoppers Light the Night Against Crime 5k on the 26th. Because we can. The last race we ran was the Camp Pendleton Mud Run, and I’ve had the itch to sign up for another one, so it’s about time. I’ve wanted to do another crazy 5k like The Color Run or Glow in the Night 5k, but it just hasn’t happened. Usually Group On or Living Social has cool 5K’s around here, but it seems like they’re always in a parking lot…Just doesn’t seem like the most exciting thing to me.

This Cops ‘n’ Robbers-themed run is at night and seems like a good time. It has a costume contest and all the proceeds go to the San Diego Crime Stoppers Felony Crime Reward Fund. I’ve never worn a costume to a race before, but it’ll be fun to do. This is how the race goes…

The robber starts at 7pm during the “jailbreak”. Cops start at 7:03pm. Jaywalkers follow.

Guess what I am? The robber. Matt’s going to be the cop. Why? Because I’m slow and could use that 3-minute head start.

The first 50 cop and robber pairs who cross the finish line (handcuffed together with plastic handcuffs) will get prizes. I don’t know if it’s realistic to be in the top 50 or not, but I’m excited anyways. Guess this means I need to prioritize my costume hunting and work on this race before finishing my Halloween costume. So much pressure!! I’m terrible at putting together costumes. We’ll see how this goes…

Also, I’d like to give a shout-out to my lovely sister who ran her first 5k yesterday! So excited for you. Smile AND she’s running the Hot Chocolate 5k in a few weeks. Jealousssss.

Questions for you:

Have you ever run a fun themed 5k or race? Any you really want to do?

Are you training for a race right now? Do share!

P.S. If you’re following my Crockpot Challenge, the following 3 recipes are on the menu for this week. What can I say? I like chicken. / It’s the easiest.

  • Crockpot Cashew Chicken
  • Crock Pot Chicken Parmesan
  • Crock Pot Chicken and Rice

Okay, that’s just hilarious. I heard about this same concept but with Zombies and “humans.” Races like this are really catching on! Not sure if I’d like to be chased in a race though…

Yes!!! Matt wants to do that race sooo badly. Kinda freaks me out though. This one seems to have less pressure.
