My Marathon Playlist

January 31, 2013 by Katie

2 días mas until the Surf City Marathon!! Sheiza!

(PS I’ve been saying sheiza for awhile and just decided to Google it to see if it was a real word. Apparently it’s a German swear word. Whoops….)

So, to finish up my training, I ran 6 miles yesterday with a time of 56:31.

Today, I did 4 recovery miles. During those 4 miles, I listened to some 90’s music, saw a huge cockroach on the sidewalk, and was frightened after seeing a man walking. Does that ever happen to you? You’re in a daze running and look up not expecting to see someone…but there they are…like 3 feet away from you. This happens to me way too often…

And tomorrow, Matt informs me I should run 3ish light miles. I suppose I could do one more short run before I die the race.

In preparation for my death the marathon, I gathered 84 songs to hopefully keep me slightly entertained.

As I put together my super long marathon playlist, I made sure to include songs that would remind me of people. At first it just kind of happened, then I went out of my way to include some, such as Janis Joplin. My logic is this: if I hear songs that remind me of people, I’ll start thinking about those people and reminisce, getting very distracted. Distraction during 4+ hours of running seems like a great idea.

So, here’s my 5.4 hour long marathon playlist, if you’re at all interested. I had to put it in 4 different images because there’s so friggin much. From rap to indie to Justin Bieber, it has quite the range of genres. I mean, hey, I don’t know what I’ll be in the mood for on Sunday.

I’ll report back on Monday with how it went. Prayers are welcomed!

What’s a song or 7 you’ve been fancying lately and think I should add last minute?

What are your plans for this first weekend of February?

Hahahhaa that scares me just looking at how lengthy that song list is! I know you’re going to rock the marathon, though. I can’t wait to hear how it goes.
    Most importantly, GOOD LUCK!

I don’t know why, but I rarely listen to music as I run. Probably has something to do with never being able to find headphones and the iPod at the same time…

Good luck with your run! I’m terrified about my half, I can’t imagine how you must be feeling about a full! Also, love that your list is so random. Mine always is too, and I feel like I must be weird. Glad I’m not weird alone 🙂

Yep, I’m definitely weird! Glad you enjoy my extremely random playlist. That’s how they always end up.

ooo interesting. I like how you have “explicit” songs sprinkled throughout your list. I like to think it’s because these will give you surges of energy. I’m a dork though.

Haha yes, I noticed that. I sure hope they provide energy surges! I’ll surely need them.

Umm you don’t have any Spice Girls or N’Sync on your list. JK. I love that you have so many Brittney Spears songs- and ones I haven’t heard of. Good luck tomorrow. I’ve been praying for you all week… not because I don’t think you can do it-because I know you can, but because I’m sure your terrified-which I know is counterproductive. I’m very proud of you lady. If you didn’t live so far away we would be there to support you (even if it meant missing the super bowl). Can’t wait to hear stories.
